Just 5 minutes from the center of the village is Dewey Mt. X-Country Ski and snowshoe center.  http://www.deweymountain.com/

Hiking:
Celebrate the outdoors in the Saranac Lake region of the Adirondacks by hiking the six peaks that surround Saranac Lake: Mckenzie, Ampersand, Scarface, Haystack, St. Regis, and Baker. Hike all six peaks to become a '6er' and earn a patch and recognition. Hike all 6 in 1 day and become an "Ultra" 6er. Do them all in winter for a "Winter 6er" patch.

Winter Carnival:

The Partridge Cottage Guest House is located across the street from the famous Ice Palace and fireworks.  This year's theme is    "Celtic Carnival"  The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, Jan. 31 – Feb. 9, 2014, is the longest-running event of its kind in the eastern U.S. http://www.saranaclakewintercarnival.com/

Ice Fishing:  The Saranac Lake region is a great place for
winter anglers. Our deep, glacier-dug lakes shelter the fish.
The Alpine climate means thick ice and lots of sunny days!
